CASE STUDIES PROjEN

Flexible support approach helps PROjEN avoid having to employ an IT manager

PROjEN PLC are a progressive, multi-disciplined project management company that provides an industrial project management, process design and full value added engineering support service that maximises their clients' investments nationwide.

They have won European Construction Institute Awards and have a high level of blue chip client retention. The company has a clear vision and occupies a market position above the one-man-bands but below the multi-nationals.

Cost effective support solution

PROjEN employs around 100 people, all of whom utilise IT in their daily jobs. Despite this reliance on their IT network they do not have an in-house IT manager but have instead signed a BusinessCare agreement with Nviron. David Elliott, Business Support Manager, explains the reasons behind this decision:

"Although we have a number of staff with admin rights across the network, we did not want to go down the route of employing a full-time IT manager as we felt that this was not the most cost efficient way of providing the IT service that our users need. The flexibility of the BusinessCare agreement with Nviron gives access to all the specialist help that we need. And, when something does go wrong, we know that one call to them will quickly get everything fixed."

Keeping up to date with new technologies

The BusinessCare agreement provides for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) monitoring of 5 of the 6 servers as well as remote desktop support for all the users. This enables Nviron staff to quickly ascertain where the problem lies and fix it either remotely, or where necessary by an on-site visit.

In addition to the general cover, PROjEN have also added a number of directed days to cover events such as setting up new servers or desktops. They have also opted for enhanced account management that enables them to take advantage of Nviron’s knowledge of new and emerging IT trends for advice and guidance on how best this can be applied to their business.

David Elliott concluded:

"As well as providing us with all the IT support we need, the Nviron service also means that they act as an outsourced consultant, advising us on how best to use IT to meet our needs. Such a flexible and all embracing relationship has been key in ensuring that IT has become an enabler for us and allows us to get on with growing and managing the business, without having to bother about being IT specialists."
