Burnley College win £5,000 worth of education laptops

Northwest-based IT Services & Solutions firm Nviron, recently delivered a series of education-focused events, raising awareness of the importance of 1:1 device programmes within UK education establishments.
Supporting schools across the UK
The UK-wide campaign included 3 workshops and a presence at the Schools & Academies Show – the UK’s leading education policy event. To complement these events, Nviron ran a competition where entrants could win £5,000 of education laptops for their school.
Entries were open to schools across the UK, entrants simply had to attend one of the events and submit an entry to be in with a chance of winning the prize. Once the campaign had concluded in December 2022, the prize draw was held and Burnley college was picked at random as the winner of the competition.
At winning the competition and receiving the laptops, Nick Williams – Infrastructure Lead at Burnley College said “We are delighted to have won this great prize, thank you! As an innovative and forward-thinking College, £5,000 worth of Dell hardware will give even more of our outstanding students the opportunity to enhance their learning with state-of-the-art IT equipment in our amazing campus.”
“Our goal at Burnley College is Building Futures and Changing Lives. We do that by providing education for all through the very latest technology, allowing our passionate Tutors to take learning to the next level and bring their subjects to life.”
Andy Carty – Head of Public Sector Sales at Nviron also stated “It’s fantastic that the laptops are going somewhere where they will make a real difference. As I see it, IT is no longer just a lesson it’s a part of every lesson and a 1:1 device programme helps put a device in the hands of every student.”
What are 1:1 device programmes?
Simply put, a 1:1 device programme enables a school to provide individual devices to each student which they can use to access digital course material and digital textbooks, both in class and at home.
Whilst some schools have a “bring your own device” policy, which encourages or requires students to use their own laptops, smartphones or other electronic devices in lessons. This system makes it virtually impossible for teachers to monitor whether all students can access the same material, at the same speed as each other, and also causes problems when outdated devices fail.
With a 1:1 device scheme, all students receive the same device, the devices are state-of-the-art and are ready to be used straight out of the box. They include internet security and are updated regularly to keep your child safe online.
Investing in a 1:1 programme enables schools to future-proof students for careers that may not even exist yet, it is ensuring that they leave secondary education with the right level of digital skills, and it is preparing and empowering them with the tools, and the knowledge, to meet the modern needs of further education and employers.
